The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania presents her credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca

On the 28th January 2016, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta, Mrs. Mariem Aouffa presented her credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

 

During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.

 

Mariem Aouffa is currently Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania within ten (10) European countries including Malta with residence in Rome, Italy.

 

From 2011 to 2014 Ambassador Aouffa was Ambassador of Mauritania to Belgium, the European Union and Holland, Luxembourg and NATO, with residence in Brussels. During this period she supervised with other negotiations for the renewal of fisheries agreements between Mauritania and the European Union.

 

Aouffa had previously worked for over 2 years as First Counsellor and then as Manager of Affairs of the Embassy of Mauritania in Tunisia. Before that she served for many years in the Mauritanian Foreign Ministry in particular the Legal and Consular Affairs department and the departments of Legislation and Mauritanians L’Etranger. Ambassador Aouffa also has extensive experience as an administrator to the Ministries of Interior and Civil Status.

 

She was a member of several charities and NGO activists for women’s rights. She is also considered as one of the great female figures of the Mauritanian politics. Aouffa was educated in rights crowned with a diploma from the National School of Administration and Magistracy Journalism Nouakchott. She also received numerous specialized training courses especially in Egypt and Tunisia and the United States of America.

 

She speaks fluent French, Arabic and Wolof. She is a widow of the famous man of culture, professor and intellectual Mauritanian, Ould Elbou Ova.

 

She is the mother of four children.
