The President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, met Senior Child Protection Specialist and Coordinator of the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action within UNICEF Mr Hani Mansourian, together with Director of the programme division for UNICEF Mr Ted Chaiban.
During their meeting, the President, Mr Mansourian and Mr Chaiban spoke about the situation being faced across Europe and the world and the outcomes of the conference entitled ‘Lost in Migration’ which was organised in Malta by Missing Children Europe and the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society, last January.
Mr Mansourian said that there are approximately 80 million children affected by disaster and conflict, many of whom have been displaced or on the move. Mr Mansourian and Mr Chaiban, together with President Coleiro Preca, discussed ways of how these children can be supported, making sure that no matter who they are or where they come from, they are treated as children.
President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, reiterated once again what she had stated during the Missing Children Conference when she had appealed to all those present to “never stop doing all that we can to empower, to nurture, and to celebrate the dignity and the wellbeing of each and every child,” whilst also adding that “we must do all that we can to ensure that the core values of solidarity, of peace and of wellbeing, which are at the heart of our organisations and institutions, are well understood within our societies.”
