Every year, the Florence Nightingale Benevolent fund within the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses organises a presentation ceremony, to celebrate and give thanks to its members who have retired from their nursing career.
This year the ceremony was organised on Friday 29th September at Sant’ Anton Palace, and was presided over by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
The President thanked the retiring nurses for their service to the country, specifically to the individuals, families, and communities who have directly benefited from their care and support, adding that, “it is often nurses and other allied healthcare professionals who ensure that the dignity of patients is promoted.”
She said that the work of nursing and midwifery is particularly intensive and demanding, therefore nurses and midwives deserve our respect and recognition, on behalf of society.
On concluding, the President said that, “we must continue striving to ensure the optimal wellbeing of our healthcare practitioners, because when their needs are being met and their dignity is being respected, then its benefits will be felt throughout our Maltese society.”
