On the 13th November, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta, H.E. Mr. Giancarlo Kessler – Ambassador of Switzerland presented his credentials to the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.
Ambassador Kessler was born on January 18th 1959 and holds a license in Economics from the University of Zurich.
He entered the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Berne in 1991 and went through his probation at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and at the Embassy of Switzerland in Madrid.
In 1993, he was appointed as diplomatic employee at the Financial and Economic Affairs Sub-Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Berne.
In 1997, he was posted as First Secretary at the Swiss Delegation to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
From 2000 until 2004 he was Councillor for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Switzerland in Rome.
On his return to Berne, in 2004, he was appointed as Deputy Head of the International Affairs Division at the Federal Office of Public Health, part of the Federal Department of Home Affairs.
In 2007, he was posted as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Permanent Representation of Switzerland to the United Nations and to the other international Organisations in Vienna.
Back to Berne in September 2010, he was appointed Head of the Sectoral Foreign Policies Division at the Directorate of Political Affairs at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
