The Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal presents his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca

On the 11th April 2017, Francisco Maria de Sousa Ribeiro Telles presented his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at The Palace, in Valletta.

During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.

Francisco Ribeiro Telles is a Portuguese career diplomat (since 1984), at present Ambassador of Portugal in Italy (2016). Before that, he was Ambassador in Brazil (2012), Angola (2007), and Cape Verde (2002).

He has held a number of positions in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, including at the Portuguese Permanent Representation to the UN in New York (1987), envoy on the UN special mission to East-Timor (1991), Head of Unit of the Special Political Affairs Bureau (1994), and at the Portuguese Embassy in Madrid (1999).

Ambassador Ribeiro Telles also served in several political cabinets, including deputy at the Prime-Minister’s Office (1983), counsellor to the President of the Republic (1986), and Chief of Staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1997). Ambassador Ribeiro Telles holds a degree in History from the University of Lisbon.

He speaks English, French, Spanish, and Italian. He is married to Maria João Ribeiro Telles. Ambassador Ribeiro Telles has been decorated with the Great Cross, and as Great Official of the Order of Merit, and he holds the degree of Knight of the Infante Dom Henrique Order.
