The Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to Malta presents his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca

On 1st September 2016, the Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Gastón Lasarte presented his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca at The Palace, in Valletta.

 

During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.

 

Ambassador Lasarte joined the Foreign Service in 1978 on merit as Third Secretary. Since then, he has occupied various positions in the Ministry of External Relations of Uruguay, as Chief of OAS Section (1978-80) and Chief of UN Section (1980-81) in the Department of International Organisations, Counsellor to the Head of the Secretary General of External Relations Office (1988-89), Director General of Political Affairs (1995), Chief of Cabinet (1996), Secretary General (1997-98), Director General of Economic International Affairs (2003-05), Deputy Director of the Strategic Planning Division (2011), and Director of Multilateral Affairs (2012-14).
Ambassador Lasarte has also been Second and First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the United Nations in New York (1982-87), and Chargé d’Affaires of Uruguay in Trinidad & Tobago as Minister Counsellor with concurrent accreditation to Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, St. Kitts & Nevis (1990-91).
Ambassador Lasarte has also been Ambassador of Uruguay to Canada, with concurrent accreditation to Iceland (1998-2003), Ambassador of Uruguay to Portugal (2005-10), and Minister of the Uruguayan Embassy in Washington, USA (1992-94).
