‘Junge Philarmonie Wien’ to give two concerts this October

This morning President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca presided over a concert launch organised by the Office of the President together with the Honorary Consul General of Austria Michael Bianchi and the Manoel Theatre.

The concert in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, is taking place on the 22nd and the 23rd of October and will feature the world-renowned ‘Junge Philarmonie Wien’.

‘Junge Philarmonie Wien’ is Austria’s elite orchestra of young talents, and is musically fashioned in the Viennese tradition (Mozart, Mahler). This Austrian orchestra was founded in 1997 by conductor Michael Lessky and important musicians of Viennese orchestras such as Wiener Philharmoniker and Wiener Symphoniker.

The President thanked Honorary Consul General for Austria Michael Bianchi and Manoel Theatre CEO Dr Michael Grech for their collaboration and for making this concert possible, and praised the orchestra’s international success, adding that it ‘‘is a wonderful example of the commitment which these musicians show to their skill, and it also is a powerful expression of youth participation in culture’’.

Michael Bianchi said that it is gratifying to bring the ‘Junge Philharmonie Wien’ to Malta, and have the orchestra here not only to honour Austria’s national day, but also for such a worthwhile cause – raising funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.

Dr Michael Grech added that the theatre management is looking forward to host such a prestigious concert whilst supporting the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.

Booking is now open from the Manoel Theatre Box Office, or online at www.teatrumanoel.com.mt. The ‘Junge Philarmonie Wien’ will feature solo excerpts by soprano Miriam Cauchi (Saturday 22nd), and soprano Nicola Said together with mezzo-soprano Christine Dalli (Sunday 23rd). The concerts will include music from different traditions, with pieces by composers including Mozart and Mahler, alongside Malta’s own Joseph Vella.
