The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates presents his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca
 
On the 18th May 2016, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta, Salem Issa Ali Alkhattam AlZaabi presented his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
 
During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.
 
Biography of Salem Issa Ali Alkhattam AlZaabi:
Ambassador Salem Issa Ali Alkhattam AlZaabi was born in 1957 and graduated from Beirut Arab University with Bachelor’s Degree in history and followed several other courses.
 
He was appointed as high technical code officer in 1975 and later joined the Secretariat’s Department. He was promoted to the rank of attaché within the diplomatic and consular corps in 1977. In 1978 he was designated Head of the Telex Department and promoted to Third Secretary in 1980, then assigned to the Undersecretary’s Office at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates in 1981. Between 1982 and 1985 he was transferred to the General Consulate of the United Arab Emirates in Karachi, and promoted to Second Secretary in 1983.
 
Ambassador Salem Issa Ali Alkhattam AlZaabi was assigned to the General Cabinet of the Ministry and later joined the Office of the Undersecretary. Appointed as First Secretary as from 1986 and promoted to the rank of Counsellor in 1988, he was then assigned to the United Arab Emirates in Bonn from 1993 assuming the responsibility of head of mission in the ambassador’s absence until 1999. In 1998 he was appointed to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.
 
In 2000, he was awarded the title of Ambassador and was appointed as Ambassador Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Thailand, as non-resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia in 2001 and as non-resident Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Laos. In 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary. In 2008 he was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Syrian Arab Republic and later appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Tunisia with effect since July 2013. This is the position which he still holds today together with ambassadorship to the Republic of Malta.
 
Ambassador Salem Issa Ali Alkhattam AlZaabi is married with five children.
