The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Austria presents his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca

On the 16th of June 2016, at the Presidential Palace in Valletta, Dr Michael Schwarzinger  presented his credentials to the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

 

During the ceremony, the President of Malta and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations.

 

Dr Michael Schwarzinger was born in 1955 in Feldkirch, Austria, and grew up in Kitzbühel and Innsbruck. He graduated from Innsbruck University in 1982 with a Ph.D. degree, and in 1986 from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

 

Dr Schwarzinger joined the Austrian Diplomatic Service in 1986.  He served in Brussels as Austria’s Representative in the EU Council Working Party on Enlargement and in the Working Party on Central Europe between 1997 and 2001. He served as Ambassador to Lithuania between 2001 and 2006, and as Ambassador to Romania and to the Republic of Moldova between 2010 and 2014.

 

Between foreign assignments, Dr Schwarzinger has worked in the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs in Vienna mainly on European affairs. He was Director of the Department for General EU-Affairs, Institutions and Institutional Questions between 2007 and 2010. He currently works in the Ministry on refugee affairs.

 

He is married to Rosemaria Schwarzinger, and they have two children.
