On Thursday 16th October, the Ambassador of Chile accredited to Malta Fernando Ayala presented his credentials to the President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca at the Presidential Palace in Valletta.
Ambassador Fernando Ayala is a career diplomat, who joined the Diplomatic Academy in 1982.
He has a degree on Economy from the University of Zagreb and a Master in Political Science at the Catholic University of Chile.
He has been Ambassador to Vietnam, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago and concurrent to Surinam, Guyana, Granada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Since July 2014 he is Ambassador to the Italian Republic and in October the 2nd he presented letters of credentials to the Director General of FAO. He is also concurrent Ambassador to the Republic of San Marino.
During his diplomatic career he has been also General Director of Protocol of the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet and General Consul in Stockholm, Chicago and Milano.
He has been decorated by the Governments of France, Italy, Portugal, El Salvador, The Netherlands, Jordan and Lithuania.
Ambassador Ayala is married to Anke Kessler and has one daughter, Camila, and one son Federico.
