President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca presided over an interfaith meeting entitled ‘United in Dialogue’ at The Palace in Valletta. The dialogue was held as part of ‘The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue’, an international exhibition being currently hosted at The Palace.
The term majlis in Arabic refers to the space of hospitality and dialogue present in homes throughout the Arabian Gulf. President Coleiro Preca said that it was truly fitting to host such a meeting within the majlis, adding that Malta can be considered as the “majlis of the Mediterranean”.
“This interfaith meeting is an opportunity to make a statement from the heart of the Mediterranean, that all of our religions are rooted in respect, peace, and love. It is truly important for all of us to be together, engaging in conversation”, said the President.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Romanian and Moldavian Orthodox in Malta; the Greek Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Damascus; the Serbian Orthodox Parish; the Jesuit Community; the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople; the Bahá’í Community of Malta; Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malta; the Methodist Church; the Malta Muslim Council; the Baptist Church; the Chabad Jewish Community; as well as the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Alessandro D’Errico and Imam Mohammed El Sadi
